Inorganic Arsenic Reference Exposure Levels

چکیده

1. Summary Acute, 8-hour and chronic reference exposure levels (RELs) were derived for inorganic arsenic including arsine. Inorganic arsenic causes a wide variety of toxic effects in humans and experimental animals including effects on development, the vascular system, the nervous system, blood, lung, and skin. The most sensitive acute effects were seen in mice (fetal development) whereas the most sensitive 8-hour and chronic effects were decreased intellectual function in children. The key values are summarized below.

Urinary inorganic arsenic in residents living in close proximity to a nickel and copper smelter in Ontario, Canada.

OBJECTIVES The current study determines whether internal exposure to inorganic arsenic for residents living in close proximity to an operating smelter is any different from that for residents living in a similar community without anthropogenic sources of inorganic arsenic. Furthermore, the study examines factors that may contribute to internal inorganic arsenic exposure in these populations. ...

Association between Lifetime Exposure to Inorganic Arsenic in Drinking Water and Coronary Heart Disease in Colorado Residents

BACKGROUND Chronic diseases, including coronary heart disease (CHD), have been associated with ingestion of drinking water with high levels of inorganic arsenic (> 1,000 μg/L). However, associations have been inconclusive in populations with lower levels (< 100 μg/L) of inorganic arsenic exposure. OBJECTIVES We conducted a case-cohort study based on individual estimates of lifetime arsenic ex...

A case-cohort study examining lifetime exposure to inorganic arsenic in drinking water and diabetes mellitus.

BACKGROUND Consumption of drinking water with high levels of inorganic arsenic (over 500 μg/L) has been associated with type II diabetes mellitus (DM), but previous studies have been inconclusive about risks at lower levels (<100 μg/L). We present a case-cohort study based on individual estimates of lifetime arsenic exposure to examine the relationship between chronic low-level arsenic exposure...

Arsenic Exposure within the Korean Community (United States) Based on Dietary Behavior and Arsenic Levels in Hair, Urine, Air, and Water

BACKGROUND Determining arsenic exposure in groups based on geographic location, dietary behaviors, or lifestyles is important, as even moderate exposures may lead to health concerns. OBJECTIVES/METHODS The Korean community in Washington State, represents a group warranting investigation, as they consume foods (e.g., shellfish, rice, finfish, and seaweed) known to contain arsenic. As part of t...

The Impact of Long-term Exposure to Low Levels of Inorganic Arsenic on the Hypomethylation of SEPT9 Promoter in Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transformed Colorectal Cancer Cell Lines

Inorganic arsenicals are worldwide environmental contaminants that affect molecular characteristics in biological systems and lead to genomic and epigenomic instability as well as epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT). In this study, we aimed to investigate whether low levels of sodium arsenite (iAsIII) can influence EMT and genomic instability through microsatellite analysis. We have also de...
